The first item I see on my re-acquainting walk is a silver birch (1) tree on the grass verge in front of my house in whose branches is a cooker. I put INTO the GRILL a FOOTBALL and a PIE, the crust of which is the red leather of a CRICKET BALL and the filling a SWAN.

(This is in slightly poor taste but odd and sick things tend to be very memorable in jarring contrast to the more pleasant ones).

The next thing I see is a (2) lamp post which, instead of a lamp at the top, just has a SIGN (sin) with a picture of a bulb on it. Walking further along the road I reach the (3) gates to a leafy lane. Blocking these is a BATTERY, about a metre in height and sat atop is EMMA THOMPSON (to the power m). I continue down the road and pass a (4) pub. As I look at the people sat at the tables outside drinking and chatting, I can see their bones like an X-RAY (x). Next I pass a small (5) car park but instead of vehicles, most of the spaces are taken up by a herd of slowly-roving DEER (d). I come to the village (6) notice board pinned to which are a selection of X-RAY (x) photographs. Adjacent to this board is the village hall whose wooden (7) doors startlingly splinter into pieces as a huge EAGLE (=) flies out straight through them and soars up into the clear blue sky. Across the road I see the (8) bus stop and, aloof from the queue, EMMA THOMPSON (m) with a pot of GOLD (-) paint and an enormous PAINT BRUSH (1) is painting the bus shelter. I come to the (9) pillar box which inexplicably changes metamorphoses into a large red CRICKET BALL (/). Passing the (10) newsagents EMMA THOMPSON (m) stands waving in the window. Continuing down the road I reach an old (11) milestone with a flap I open to find a grill. I put INTO the GRILL both another FOOTBALL and another PIE consisting of CRICKET BALLS and SWANS
